And one of the best things is when it is a recent photo. It always makes me feel pretty good when someone asks, "what is your favorite photo?" and it's something I shot in the last month or two. That's the case with my choice."

Studio Portrait Presentation

In addition to more than 20 years in the field of fine art portraiture, Kim holds Bachelor Of Fine Arts degrees in both Graphic Design and Photography from Memphis College Of Fine Arts.

Kim was selected by editor Emily Colins to be featured in her books, The Secret To Their Success and The Long Way Around: How 34 women Found The Lives They Love. The books tell the story of 34 amazing women - including Maya Angelou and Mia Hamm - and how they achieved success in their lives. Kim was voted Best of City Search 2007 for Best Photographer - Editorial Winner.

“Photography allows me to fully express my creativity and utilize my talent. It allows me to interact and connect deeply with others, while creating magical images from the experience; images that live on to become cherished family heirlooms.

I believe in miracles. How else can I explain the fact that I am living my dream? I get to do what I love, while also bringing so much happiness into the lives of others. This is not my work. I enjoy it too much to call it work.(Work is the piles of laundry that I never seem to get to the bottom of). Instead, this is my calling.

Without a doubt, the years I spent earning my degrees in both fine art photography and graphic design were essential to developing my own personal style. Some things cannot be taught, however. Like- intuition, knowing when to snap the shutter in time to catch a subtle expression, or, to capture the way a little girl curls her toes, or, preserving forever the passionate look on the faces of newlyweds.

My portraits reveal personalities. Relationships between the individuals in the portraits become clear. Many people have said they can look at my portraits and feel like they know the people in them. This is one of the best compliments anyone can give me. After all, photography is not about communicating with words, but with expressions. My portraits will tell you more about my art than words ever could.”

Kim has a thriving studio in Apex. Please visit her website before the presentation on July 19th at http://www.kimcrenshawphotography.com/index.html to familiarize yourself with her unique photographic style.

July 24 (or 31 alternate)
