Competitions

The club offers a number of ways for members to have their work evaluated. There are formal competitions, judged by professionals, there are a monthly digital image competitions, judged by club members, and there are ocassional critiques. These critiques offer an opportunity for a discussion between a judge, the maker and attending club members. The critique takes the form of a judged competition but no points are assigned and the maker may participate.
All club members are encouraged to participate in the competitions.
Points are assigned in the print competitions and in the monthly digital competitions. These points are accumulated at year end to determine a Photographer of the Year award.

  • Print Competitions:
Each year a number of print competitions are held. These provide opportunities for the member to produce a finished matted work with no frame for review by professional judges. • Photo of the Month (POM) Competitions:
There are eleven Photo of the Month competitions during the year, one per month, until late November when we then have a competition to select the best from the January through November winners.  This final event is called the "POM of the Year” competition.
  • POM of the Year:
The POM of the Year award results from a competition among all of the year's previous POM winners.  Those images placing first in the eleven POM competitions are entered into this competition.
